Kolmanskop Diamond Room

Today, 99 years after the first diamond was found in the Namib Desert, diamonds can be found in the grand halls of Kolmanskop once again. NAMDEB renovated the old “smoke room” to make way for the new Diamond Room.

Single cut stones is sold here. All stones are cut and polished locally by NAMGEM the cutting factory in Okahanja. Every diamond is issued with a grading report so that the buyer knows exactly what the characteristics of the diamond is.

Finally the diamonds come back to Kolmanskop where it graces the halls of the once vibrant town. The diamonds that are sold here vary in colour and clarity and prices range from N$ 500.00 and more.

Namibia is known for its good quality diamonds and that is exactly what the Diamond Room portrays. It is a tribute to all the people who braved the harsh Namib Desert in search of something so precious and enduring as diamonds. It tells the story of an era that sustained life by diamonds, an era of power, deceit, honour and danger. Today, only traces of these unsung heroes lie buried in the sand along with all the untold stories and mysteries surrounding the diamonds of Kolmanskop…
